UF Move-In / Move-Out Guide
Moving around the University of Florida (UF) calendar? Four windows matter: the mid-August fall move-in (the big one), early January spring move-in, the June/July medical-resident relocation surge, and the summer sublet shuffle between leases. This guide lays out the dates for each window, how on-campus move-in logistics work, how the off-campus August-to-July lease cycle drives everything, and what to book when.
The UF Calendar at a Glance
Fall 2026 classes: August 20 – December 2, 2026
Fall on-campus move-in: began August 15, 2026 (staggered multi-day event)
Spring 2027 classes: January 11 – April 21, 2027
Summer C 2027 classes: May 10 – August 6, 2027
Residency training start: July 1 (matched residents relocate in June/July)
Fall Move-In: Mid-August (The Big One)
On campus. UF designates building-specific unloading zones. Display an unloading pass on the dash, unload, then promptly move the vehicle to Parking Garage V and shuttle back. Vehicles left unattended may be ticketed or towed. A UF parking decal (taps.ufl.edu) is required to park on campus. Students select hourly move-in appointments — arrive in yours.
Off campus. The August turnover is the dominant moving event in Gainesville. Expect heavy demand on crews, trucks, and containers across the first two weeks of August. Parents' tip: booking before July is the difference between a calm move and a scramble.
Spring Move-In: Early January
Spring 2027 classes start January 11, 2027. A smaller move — returning students and new admits. Same on-campus unloading rules apply. Confirm the spring hall-opening date with UF Housing directly.
The June/July Resident Surge
Match Day for the 2026 Main Residency Match was Friday, March 20, 2026. NRMP rules require matched residents to be able to enter training on July 1, so newly matched residents relocate in June/July — around UF Health Shands Hospital (1600 SW Archer Rd) and North Florida Regional Medical Center (6500 Newberry Rd). Target June or early July, before the August student turnover eats every crew in town.
Summer: Sublets and Between-Lease Moves
Summer C 2027 runs May 10–August 6, 2027. Students in summer classes often move twice — out in late July, back in August — or into short summer sublets. Classic labor-only moves: a bedroom's worth of furniture, a quick load and unload.
What to Book When
September–October (the year before): leasing season. Sign your lease before you think about movers.
Spring: price labor for the August window — booking early is the standard advice.
For residents: start looking the week after Match Day in mid-March.
One month out: confirm your complex's move-day policy in writing.
One week out: buy the UF parking decal (taps.ufl.edu). Stage boxes. Confirm crew time.
