Who We Are — UF Moves Since 2011
We started in Gainesville in 2011 loading U-Haul trucks for UF students. That's where this company began.
The founder, Gregory Sledge, was a U.S. Army veteran in the VA's transitional housing program when he posted a Craigslist ad offering loading help for UF students renting U-Haul trucks. Two jobs booked within a day. UF students told their friends. Word spread. The original crew came from the VA transitional housing program — fellow veterans working their way out of homelessness through honest labor.
That's the origin. Fifteen years later, we're still running UF moves every semester. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs published our story on va.gov in 2015.
What that history means for your move today: we're not guessing at UF. We've worked every major UF dorm, every Archer Road student apartment complex, every corner of the UF Health Shands medical corridor. We know the August move-in rush. We know the May move-out scramble. We know what out-of-state parents driving U-Haul rentals into Gainesville actually need.
═══════════════════════════════════════════════════
Why Veterans for Your UF Move
When you're comparing movers during UF rush season, here's what veteran identity actually means on your move day:
On time, every time. We commit to exact start times, not four-hour windows. UF move-out deadlines are tight. August move-in traffic is brutal. We're there when we say we'll be there.
Discipline under pressure. August move-in week is chaos. Parents exhausted from long drives. Students trying to finish orientation and unpack at the same time. 95-degree Florida heat. Thunderstorms. We stay calm, work the plan, finish the job.
Respect for families. Clear communication. No upsell pressure. No surprise fees. Parents flying in from out of state get treated the way we'd want our own parents treated.
Work ethic that doesn't clock out. We work until the truck is loaded, the storage unit is packed, or the dorm room is cleared. Not until a convenient stopping time.
Honest pricing. $75 per mover per hour for labor-only, $200–$300 per hour with our truck. 2-mover minimum, 2-hour minimum. No fuel surcharges. No Florida heat fees. No stair fees. No hidden line items.
Accountability. Veterans don't pass blame to dispatch or subcontractors. Something goes wrong, we own it.

UF Dorm Move-Outs and Move-Ins
UF dorm moves have their own logistics — tight windows, shared loading zones, residence hall closure deadlines, and parents arriving from everywhere.
UF dorms we work every semester:
- Broward Hall — central campus, high-traffic move-in zone
- Beaty Towers — high-rise dorm with elevator logistics and reservation requirements
- Jennings Hall — west campus, limited truck access
- Hume Hall — east campus, coordinated with UF Housing
- Fraternity Row and Sorority Row — Greek housing along SW corridor, move-day coordination with house leadership
Dorm move-out realities:
- Residence halls close for summer on specific dates — miss the deadline and you pay daily rate
- UF Housing manages loading zone access at high-density dorms
- Elevator dorms require time-slot reservations during move weeks
- Parents have a narrow window to load and hit the road home
- Gainesville summer heat (95°F+ routine in May) affects crew pace
How we handle UF dorm moves:We split the crew when parents arrive with rental trucks — two movers in the dorm room packing and bringing items down, two loading the truck. Parallel operations cut the timeline in half. For parents on a same-day drive-home schedule, this matters.
Booking guidance for UF dorms:
- May move-out: book 3 to 4 weeks ahead
- August move-in: book 4 to 6 weeks ahead
- Saturdays during rush fill first. Weekdays have more availability.

UF Off-Campus Student Apartment Moves
Off-campus housing along Archer Road, SW 13th Street, 34th Street, and Midtown is where most UF upperclassmen and graduate students live. We work these properties every semester.
Archer Road corridor student housing:
- The Bartram — 2337 SW Archer Rd — gated luxury student community, upper-floor stair carries, UF August rush books 4 to 6 weeks ahead
- The Standard — Archer Road luxury student high-rise
- The Nine Gainesville — Archer Road luxury student complex
- Lark — Archer Road student housing
- Canopy Apartments — off-campus student
Midtown Gainesville student housing:
- Hub Gainesville — student high-rise adjacent to UF campus
Student communities across Gainesville:
- Oxford Manor, College Manor, West 20
- Cabana Beach, Museum Walk
- The Laurels, The Ridge, Campus Lodge
Operational realities we know:
- Gated communities with codes — we pre-coordinate before move day
- Elevator reservations at luxury student high-rises — we book them 24 to 48 hours ahead
- Loading dock limits at Standard, Nine, and Hub
- Archer Road rush hour traffic (4 to 6 PM especially)
- Certificate of Insurance (COI) requirements at luxury properties — we carry ours

UF Health Shands, Malcom Randall VA, and North Florida Regional Medical Staff Moves
UF's medical corridor drives a steady year-round move pattern that doesn't track the undergraduate calendar.
UF Health Shands Hospital — major teaching hospital, medical residents and fellows rotate on March Match Day schedules, July start dates drive summer move waves.
Malcom Randall VA Medical Center — the Gainesville VA. Our founding market — the veterans who became our first crew came from the VA transitional housing program connected to this facility. We run VA employee moves, veteran relocations, and VA-partnered transitional housing moves throughout the year.
North Florida Regional Medical Center (NFRMC) — HCA-affiliated, staff rotations and relocations year-round.
UF Health Shands satellite facilities — Cancer Hospital, Psychiatric Hospital, Rehab Hospital all within the corridor.
What medical corridor residents need:
- Tight start-date schedules (residency contracts don't flex)
- Relocation assistance coordination with hospital HR
- Moves that fit between 12-hour shifts
- Short-notice booking capacity
We coordinate with hospital HR relocation teams when residents and fellows have employer relocation assistance. Tell us at booking.
═══════════════════════════════════════════════════
UF Graduate Student and Faculty Moves
Not every UF move is an undergraduate. PhD candidates, post-docs, faculty, and UF Health professionals often choose neighborhoods outside the student housing corridor.
Haile Plantation — SW Gainesville master-planned community. Tree-lined streets, golf courses, family-oriented. Faculty, senior PhD candidates, and medical professionals. Standard suburban moves with clean truck access.
Town of Tioga — W Gainesville residential community with newer construction. Family-friendly. Faculty and medical staff.
Duckpond Historic District — near downtown. Historic homes with mature oak trees. Faculty, artists, senior academics. Narrower doorways, original hardwoods, antique furniture — we bring extra floor protection and doorframe padding.
Suburban Heights, Ridgewood, Northwood Pines — quieter residential areas with mix of faculty and long-term residents.
Oakmont — upscale gated community off Tower Road. Gated access coordination required.

Parent-From-Out-of-State UF Move Help
A meaningful portion of our UF business is parents driving into Gainesville from somewhere else — Orlando, Miami, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Tampa, Charlotte, Nashville, DC, New York, New Jersey, Chicago.
By the time you arrive you're:
- Tired from the drive
- Unfamiliar with Gainesville traffic (especially Archer Road and University Avenue)
- Navigating a rental truck in an unfamiliar city
- Dealing with a student who underestimated how much stuff they accumulated
Here's what we can do:
Meet you where you are. We coordinate meeting time and location before you leave home. Rental truck pickup location, your student's address, dorm loading zone — wherever makes sense.
Handle the loading. Loading is where space management matters most. Professional movers fit 30 to 40% more into a truck than amateurs. We load it right so your student's stuff survives the drive home.
Handle the heavy items. Mattresses, couches, dressers, mini-fridges, TVs, desks. You don't throw your back out helping a 20-year-old with their college furniture.
Protect what matters. Moving blankets, shrink wrap, corner protection, floor runners. Your student's stuff gets treated like our own.
Work with your schedule. You're on a tight drive window. We show up on time, work hard, get done fast.
Parents driving in for UF move weeks: call 352-328-6215 before you leave home. Tell us your arrival window and we'll have a crew ready.

UF August Move-In Rush — What to Know
UF's fall semester starts in mid-to-late August. The two weeks around first-year orientation and the opening of residence halls are the busiest single period in Gainesville moving.
Realistic booking expectations:
- Book 4 to 6 weeks ahead. August rush books up early. Don't wait.
- Saturday slots go first. Especially the Saturday before first-year move-in day. If your timing is flexible, a weekday morning is easier to book.
- Out-of-state parents get priority scheduling when possible. We know your drive window is tighter than local families.
- Traffic on Archer Road, SW 13th Street, University Avenue, and 34th Street gets intense. Morning moves (7:30 to 9:00 AM start) beat the worst of it.
- Florida heat is real. August Gainesville routinely hits 95°F with 85%+ humidity. We start early and pace for hydration breaks.
- Dorms have assigned move-in days and loading zone slots. Confirm yours with UF Housing before booking us.
═══════════════════════════════════════════════════
UF May Move-Out Rush — What to Know
UF's spring semester ends in early May. Move-out week is the other major UF moving window.
Realistic booking expectations:
- Book 3 to 4 weeks ahead for May Saturdays
- Book 1 to 2 weeks ahead for May weekdays
- Storage unit demand spikes — if your student is storing for summer, reserve the unit early
- Donation drop-offs fill up — Goodwill and Salvation Army get overwhelmed the last week of the month
- Lease walk-through timing matters — confirm with your landlord before booking us
- Out-of-state parent coordination — same as August, call before you leave home

When Something Goes Wrong — UF Move Contingencies
Gate code doesn't work. Common at Bartram, Cabana Beach, Museum Walk. We work with the leasing office or security to establish access. 15 to 45 minutes worst case.
Elevator reservation conflict. At Hub, Standard, or Nine during August rush. We split the crew — two movers work the elevator window, two work the loading zone.
Parent's rental truck arrives late. Happens during rush week. We bill from our arrival time. We'll help coordinate with the rental company.
Student hasn't finished packing. Common. We can help with final packing for additional time, or prioritize what IS packed and make a second trip.
Florida thunderstorm. July through September, afternoon thunderstorms are frequent. We proceed through light rain with tarps. Lightning triggers a 30 to 60 minute pause for safety.
95-degree heat crew fatigue. We schedule hydration breaks into the estimate. Mandatory breaks are faster than crew injuries.
Too much stuff for the truck. We recommend second trip if time allows, storage for overflow, or donation for items that don't need to go.

UF Graduates Relocating to Hampton Roads, VA
A meaningful portion of UF graduates relocate to Virginia — specifically Hampton Roads. Navy and Air Force commissions, medical residency matches at Eastern Virginia Medical School and Sentara Norfolk General, engineering jobs at Newport News Shipbuilding, civilian positions at Naval Station Norfolk, and teaching positions at Old Dominion University all pull UF grads northeast.
We run operations in both markets. Gainesville since 2011. Hampton Roads since 2019. Same veteran-owned company. Same honest pricing. Same crew discipline.
For UF graduates heading to Hampton Roads:
- We pack and load in Gainesville through our local crew
- We coordinate unloading in Norfolk, Hampton, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Newport News, or anywhere in Hampton Roads through our local Virginia crew
- One company, two markets, one point of contact
Medical residents matching from UF Health Shands to Eastern Virginia Medical School or Sentara Norfolk General on Match Day: we've made this specific move before. Call early in the Match-to-start timeline (March to June).
Military commissions from UF's Army and Navy ROTC programs heading to Naval Station Norfolk, Joint Base Langley-Eustis, or Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story: we coordinate both ends of the PCS move.
