SW 34th Street is the spine: Florida State Road 121, four lanes from West University Avenue at the southwest corner of the UF campus, south past SW 2nd and SW 20th Avenues, across SW Archer Road, toward SW Williston Road. At its north end it passes the Mark Bostick Golf Course (UF's course) at 2800 SW 2nd Avenue — and the 34th Street Wall: a 1,120-foot retaining wall built by FDOT in 1979 to stop golf-course erosion when the road widened from two lanes to four; since the 1980s it has worked as Gainesville's community bulletin board — graduation announcements, proposals, game-day messages, and two permanent memorial panels, one for the victims of the Danny Rolling murders and one for Gainesville native Tom Petty. If your driver passes the wall, they are on the right street. SW 62nd Boulevard is the parallel apartment street, between Archer Road and SW 20th Avenue about a mile west of 34th; its cross streets (SW 35th Place, SW 37th Boulevard) carry the corridor's densest student housing: Spyglass Apartments (701 SW 62nd Boulevard), Forest View, formerly The Pavilion on 62nd (1000 SW 62nd Boulevard), Gainesville Place (2800 SW 35th Place), The Enclave (3000 SW 35th Place), The Quarters Gainesville (4000 SW 37th Boulevard). The two streets meet at the ends: SW 20th Avenue crosses both at the north (Canopy Apartments, 4400 SW 20th Avenue; On20 Apartments, 3527 SW 20th Avenue); Archer Road ties both together at the south. See our Archer Road Moving Guide for the corridor east to UF Health Shands and the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center.
